BELL piloted its first summer learning program in North Carolina in 2009 at the invitation of a middle school in Charlotte. In 2011, BELL received a Social Innovation Fund grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation to further expand its summer learning programs in the state. In 2012, BELL was invited by Project L.I.F.T. in Charlotte and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools to expand learning time in the summer. In 2014, we partnered with the Blue Ribbon Commission on the Prevention of Youth Violence to bring the BELL Summer program to Wilmington.
We continue to partner with schools and community organizations, including Project L.I.F.T and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, as well as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, First Presbyterian Church, and several additional individual schools in Charlotte. In 2015, we look forward to kicking off a new partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that will expand grade-level reading opportunities through our READy Scholars program. We will also be launching new partnerships in Greenvile, SC, and Durham, NC, and expanding in Wilmington this summer. We welcome opportunities to form new partnerships with schools and communities throughout the region.
