North & South Carolina

BELL piloted its first summer learning program in North Carolina in 2009 at the invitation of a middle school in Charlotte. In 2011, BELL received a Social Innovation Fund grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation to further expand its summer learning programs in the state. In 2012, BELL was invited by Project L.I.F.T. in Charlotte and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools to expand learning time in the summer. In 2014, we partnered with the Blue Ribbon Commission on the Prevention of Youth Violence to bring the BELL Summer program to Wilmington.

In the Carolinas, we currently serve Charlotte and Durham, NC and Greenville, SC. In Charlotte, we partner with Project LIFT, First Presbyterian Church/Westerly Hills Academy, Devonshire Elementary School and Huntingtowne Farms Elementary School. In Durham, we partner with the East Durham Children's Initiative (EDCI) to serve scholars from three elementary schools in the EDCI Zone. In Greenville, we are proud to be a partner in the OnTrack Greenville community initiative that focuses on middle school success.

We welcome opportunities to form new partnerships with schools and communities throughout the Carolinas.
